Join Faith

Some of the questions you’re asked when you join as a member of a United
Methodist Church are related to being a part of the Christian faith:

Do you renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers of this world,
and repent of your sin? (I do).

Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you to resist evil, injustice, and
oppression in whatever forms they present themselves? (I do.)

Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior, put your whole trust in his grace, and
promise to serve him as your Lord, in union with the Church which Christ has opened
to people of all ages, nations, and races? (I do.)

The mission of The United Methodist Church, affirmed at the 2008 General
Conference, is "to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the
world."   So, you’re asked this question: As a member of Christ's universal
church, will you be loyal to Christ through The United Methodist Church, and do all in
your power to strengthen its ministries?  (I will.)

When you join Faith Church, which is a local United Methodist congregation,
you'll answer some questions as you make a commitment more specifically to
being a member of this local church.  This is called the Profession of Faith.
The mission of Faith Church: We exist to serve and care for the community as we
work to be and make disciples of Jesus Christ and grow together in relationship with
God and with our neighbors.

Together, along with the members of the congregation who are looking on or
participating that day, we all say: We give thanks for all that God has already given
us. As members of the body of Christ and in this congregation of The United
Methodist Church, we will faithfully participate in the ministries of the church by
our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service, and our witness, that in
everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.

Are you ready to say “YES!” to faith, and to being a part of Faith Church as a member?
**Worship is at 9:30am on Sundays; “Yes! Sundays” are on the 2nd Sundays, monthly.
A Faith Church Lay Leader will be part of the Yes! service to present and welcome you
to Faith Church as you make a commitment to being part of Faith UMC.

**You will receive a certificate of membership during or immediately following the
service.  Your membership will be on file with the church office and will stay as such
until or unless you transfer your membership elsewhere or have been inactive for 1 or
more years.  (The church will reach out to you to check in if at any point there is a year
or more you are not actively part of the church, in order to give you an opportunity to

share whether you'd like to continue your membership or not). As a member of the
UMC, you have both voice and vote in decisions that get made at the local church
level.  If you are named or elected as a Lay Delegate to the Annual Conference at any
time, then you have voice and vote at the Conference level.  And so on.

Faith Church is in a really exciting time right now because it's working hard to be a
healthy and thriving community; the church is in a position to grow and reach lots of
people, and at the same time invites everyone to pitch in and serve in some way (also
really exciting, because every single thing each of us does makes a big difference to
lots of people as we serve God together)!

We're serving lots of people, making lots of decisions, and we're especially ready for all who want to get involved and make a difference, and who want to grow in faith through
worship, Bible study, learning about how God can work in and through us, and by
serving others.  We are also looking for leaders--small group leaders, and leaders and
those willing to serve on committees/teams--if that's something you're able to do, we're open to new leaders during this season who want to help bring Faith into the future and reach people with God's love.  You may already have made this kind of commitment--thank you.

You may already be serving in some other way--great! Let me know if we
can be of assistance as you begin your new connection to this faith community with
your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. You are in our prayers as you consider this commitment.
